They say that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. And if you are into pop culture you know that something has really “made it” when people start creating parodies of it. Why should we be surprised to see not only one but THREE Hunger Games parodies already?
1) Hunger Games Parody Song: I Wanna Go (by Luke Conrad)
This song is a takeoff on the Britney Spears song “I Wanna Go.” Lyrics by Katniss include “Two hot guys for me to run between, There’s no shortage in my District if you know what I mean” Peeta’s line “I’ll bake you pies” is sure to make for some great t-shirts. You an buy the mp3 on Amazon.
2) The Hunger Pains: A Parody (by The Harvard Lampoon)
Set to come out in February (right before the movie, not a coincidence), this paperback book claims that it will “lampoon not only Collins’s writing and characters, but cleverly tackles the themes of morality, government control, and personal independence.” Twilight fans were not very happy with the Harvard Lampoon Twilight parody called “Nightlight.” Will Hunger Games fans react better to their Hunger Games Parody? The book is available on Amazon for pre-order and will be released February 7, 2012.
3) The Hunger But Mainly Death Games: A Parody (by Bratniss Everclean)
With the first chapter already available online at Scribd, this parody promises to be a little more gory than the original books. It’s humorous but definitely aimed more at adults than the pre-teen set that are generally fans of the Hunger Games.Watch the video below to get more of a feel for it.

What do you think of the Hunger Games parodies that are being made? Are they a sign of how popular the Hunger Games are and a nod in that direction or a disrespectful attempt for others to make money off of the franchise?
